SYNERGY XI Conference, March 23-25, 2015 in Greenville, NC.  This event will be held at the Greenville Convention Center.

NC CAP’s annual SYNERGY conference brings together afterschool and expanded learning providers and supporters for training and sharing of best practices.  NC CAP serves as the comprehensive, statewide network of afterschool stakeholders in North Carolina, bringing state agencies, state and local policymakers, afterschool providers and the private sector together to increase access to high quality afterschool programs for all children and youth in North Carolina.

For the first time NC CAP will be hosting the Synergy Conference in the city of Greenville. A special block of rooms at the rate of $120 per night is now available for those attending the conference. If you are making your reservation over the phone, please mention PSF (Synergy 2015) in order to receive the discounted rate. Be sure to reserve your room TODAY !!!

2015 SYNERGY XI Points of Interest

Monday - March 23, 2015

4:00pm - 6:00pm :  A Taste of Greenville Tour: Join us on a tour of four local restaurants. Eat FREE h'orderves at each restaurant.  Pay for your drink only.  FREE transportation pickup and drop-off in front of the Convention Center.  All for just $15.00.  Space Available: 60 people.  Tickets will be sold in the Lobby of the Greenville Convention Center on a first come first serve basis.

2015 Keynote Speaker

NC CAP is proud to announce that the 2015 Synergy keynote speaker will be 2014 Burroughs Wellcome Fund North Carolina Teacher of the Year and 2014 Charlotte Mecklenburg Person of the Year, James E. Ford.  James is a ninth-grade World History teacher at Garinger High School in Charlotte, North Carolina.  James began his teaching career in Rockford Public Schools in Rockford, Illinois.  He worked as a truancy intervention specialist in high schools.  Before becoming a classroom teacher, he was director of a teen center that provided educational and afterschool activities for youth at risk of dropping out of school. He has been a teacher in Charlotte since 2010.  He considers his work to be his "life-calling" and has dedicated himself to serving his community through education. He brings energy, enthusiam, and much information that will be beneficial for educators, as well as the afterschool and expanded learning community! 

 



An Evening With the Stars: Celebrating Pillars in the Expanded Learning Community

Speaker: Dr. Jim Johnson, Director, Urban Investment Strategies Center, Kenan Flagler School of Business, UNC Chapel HIll

Dr. Johnson garnered national accolades for the Durham Scholars Program, initiated at Kenan-Flagler in 1995.  Students with amazing promise and few advantages are educated, motivated and mentored.  Students take place after school, weekends, and summer, grade six through high school graduation.  Durham Scholars Program funds their college tuitions.
